“In the cycle of destiny, we are the center point of submission. What you decide is a grace, what you wish is an order.” – Hafez

Circles, a solo showcase by summer 2024 artist-in-residence Homa Sarabi, features work in progress of an interactive collective story, a movement choir, and a creative representation of the experience of contemporary womanhood. Expressed with various mediums—such as a video installation of this work in progress, drawings of notated dance, and a participatory project—the artist is forwarding the untold intimate stories of life lived in a female body.

Through the practice of movement choirs and poetic drama in a multidimensional collaborative work, the participants of workshops held during the residency formed ways to share their personal experiences, emotions, and thoughts by co-designing a choreographic score. The films and the dance notations are records of that collective practice. The participants self-identify as women, or their life experiences have been significantly shaped by their gender as a female or female-presenting or queer person.

This work is made possible through collaborations and co-creations.

Primary collaborators
Choreographer: Meg Buckner
