Gallery 263 is pleased to announce Collective Consciousness, a pop-up video installation by collaborative artists Flor Delgadillo and Priya Dave. Collective Consciousnesswill be on view in the windows outside of the gallery on Sunday, September 26, from 6 to 10 PM. This interactive installation incorporates sculpture, video, digital fabrication, and medical equipment, including an electroencephalogram machine (EEG), to explore racial disparities faced by women of color in medical care.

Collective Consciousness is a visualization of the underlying internal dynamics of the human brain. The work on view is based on imagery from contemporary neuroscience research conducted by Dave and a handmade EEG machine designed and built by Delgadillo. As women of color, both artists bring their lived experiences to examine ways that health care access and neuroscience are interconnected with social injustices.

During COVID-19, an unprecedented number of people of color have suffered from mental health issues. The artists believe that by creating a conversation about the lack of accessibility to proper health care, the community will collectively dig deeper to uproot systemic racism in the United States. Flor Delgadillo and Priya Dave, who are committed to speaking out about this dire concern, created this video installation to reflect alongside the community about this critical topic.
