McCall Hollister (b.1997, they/them, Boston*) is a collector, an educator, a museum worker, a speculative geologist, and a bookmaker. Their research interrogates collection practices and the limits of (auto)biography through their collection of 800* rocks, stones, bricks, and other ephemera. Hollister received their BA in Arts & Humanities from Michigan State University in 2019, and their Masters in Fine Arts and Museum Studies from the School of Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in 2024. Artist statement
I am a rock collector by habit and a book binder by choice. As a book artist (and an educator) I work across disciplines, combining writing, photography, and printmaking. As a collector (and a writer) I’m less interested in categorization and identification, and instead I rely on improvisation. Ultimately the collection becomes another form of autobiography, and through the process I question how people and rocks alike experience time, transition, and transformation.
