Yueyang Peng

Yueyang Peng (b. 2000), also known as Matilda, was born in Qingdao, China. She graduated high school in New Hampshire and is currently pursuing her BA and BFA at Tufts University and the SMFA.

Statement

Her constant experience of drifting back and forth between home and other places has influenced her nostalgic sense of art. Her photographic works explore the relationship between time and humans, focusing on the inability to capture beauty in the world. The painterly and poetic effect of light is central in her works for recording ephemeral and personal feelings. Using visual images as the basis of her creation, she records the contradiction of beauty with the helplessness that one feels for attempting to grasp the unattainable.
