Stories Beneath the Surface: A Community Conversation

May 9 @ 1:00 pm 3:00 pm

Hannah Latham

Join exhibiting artist Hannah Latham of Ripples in Still Water for a community conversation on May 9 from 1-3pm ET. In conversation with Peter Bruun (Director of Studio B) and three Lincoln County, Maine residents involved in the wider 19 Towns, 20 Stories documentary project, Latham will explore the value of art in addressing difficult experiences, such as substance use disorder.

This is a unique opportunity to engage in conversation with the people photographed in this multiyear project. Each participant will address what it was like to be involved and why this work is important to them. Audience members will be able to ask direct questions after a brief guided discussion.

Ripples in Still Water is a photographic exhibition that positions rural Maine as a microcosm of a national crisis, where isolation can be deadly, and community can be sustaining. The work seeks to challenge stigma, raise awareness, and spark conversation, making room for both empathy and outrage, and calling for a more compassionate response to those most at risk.

This event is free and open to the public.
