Face is a national group exhibition juried by Anthony Peyton Young. In Face, more than 20 featured artists exhibit work that challenges the tradition and explores the potential of portraiture.

Through painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, embroidery, and mixed media, these artists create work that not only depicts the likeness of a person or scene but also the inner sentiments of the maker. Bryn Brunnstrom’s ink on board titled Clocky – A Portrait of Bonbon Auter considers how the faces we present to the world comprise both how we wish to be seen and how we are seen. In Self-Portrait with Chinese Calligraphy, Andrew Zou hopes to provoke conversations about how queer communities survive in China. David Enriquez, whose acrylic painting is on view, makes work about topics he sometimes struggles to talk about, such as identity, politics, and religion.

In Face, the artists contemplate a range of themes, including personal healing, the human condition,  memory, identity, connection, the overlooked, body image, and more. From black and white drawings to paintings with cacophonies of colors and from detailed representational work to abstract pieces, the art on view explores portraiture in many forms.
