Get Involved

Our dedicated staff, board, and volunteers are the driving force behind Gallery 263, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Though we come from diverse backgrounds and bring different skills and experiences to the table, our shared passion for art and community keeps us focused and true to our mission.

Volunteer with Gallery 263

New for 2024! Volunteers who gallery sit will be eligible to receive discounted or free call for art submissions. Sit for one shift (gallery hours are Wednesday–Friday, 4–7 pm; Saturday, 1–4 pm), to receive half off one submission to a call for art or a call for exhibition proposals. Sit for two shifts to receive one free submission.*

Gallery 263 is seeking enthusiastic, creative, and flexible volunteers! There are many opportunities to get involved, and volunteer positions may be developed to suit individual skills and interests. Whether you would like to gallery sit once a week, help with organizational projects, or contribute a professional skill, we welcome volunteer applications year round.

Call for Board of Director Members

Gallery 263 is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join their collaborative and creative Board of Directors. The current directors bring a variety of skills and experience, united by a passion for art and community. The directors work closely with our small staff of three to fulfill the Gallery’s mission of supporting regional artists and providing a welcoming venue for artistic gatherings and expression.

Board membership is on a voluntary basis and members are elected to an initial one-year term, with intent to renew. This working board meets four times per year. Minimal time is required outside of the regular meetings to execute specific tasks as delegated during board meetings, or to participate in extra initiatives around fundraising, audience development, community engagement, strategic planning, and program development. Board members are also solicited for their vote on the selection of exhibitions for our Exhibition Proposal Series.

Board members provide a sounding board for the staff, as well as direction and accountability. They are expected to help grow the vibrant community of visitors, ticket buyers, and volunteers. A meaningful annual financial contribution is also required.

The board and staff are always open to new ideas for improvement, organizational sustainability, and especially fundraising. Past projects led by board members include: a comprehensive brand identity, a new website, a weekend of one-act plays, a festival of one-minute films, a silent dance party, annual foraged-food banquet, and a $12,000 Kickstarter fundraising campaign, and promotional video.

Qualifications

We are in pursuit of new board members of all skill levels and experience. We are specifically looking for new directors with an interest and aptitude for fundraising, accounting and finance, web design, and/or photography and documentation. That said, we are always looking for new volunteers with an eagerness to jump in and help with a variety of tasks—flyering, soliciting raffle donations, running events, etc.

Applicants should understand–or seek to understand–the inner workings of arts or nonprofit organizations and should have an interest in the arts, but do not need to be artists or arts professionals. Knowledge of fundraising, donor prospecting, grant writing, and community engagement are a strong advantage. Connections to the local business community or other community organizations would also be a huge plus. We highly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.

Board members must be able to attend 4 annual board meetings and at least two annual fundraising events.
