How many artworks can I submit?
Artists may submit up to 6 artworks. Jurors may choose more than one artwork per artist. 1-3 artworks requires a fee of $25, while 4-6 requires a $40 fee.
What size should my images be?
We appreciate you sizing your images to be high quality but small in file size. Please upload all image files as .jpg files, 72 dpi with 1200 pixels on the longest side. Files that are too large can cause submission uploads to freeze or not upload.
Can my application fee be waived?
If you live locally and are able to volunteer gallery sit, you may be eligible to receive a discounted or waived submission. Learn more.
Otherwise, fees cannot be waived as they contribute to exhibition expenses and keep individual costs low. We appreciate your support!
Are there additional expenses beyond the submission fee if selected?
There is no additional exhibition fee, beyond paying for shipping/transportation of your art to and from the gallery.
Does my fee get refunded if I’m not selected?
Submitting to our juried exhibitions does not guarantee you will be curated into the exhibition, and Gallery 263 does not refund submission fees for unaccepted artist submissions.
How are juried exhibitions selected?
Gallery 263 invites a guest juror to jury the submissions; typically a curator, museum or gallery director, artist, or other arts professional. Digital jpg files or links (for video/audio work) are accepted online. Applications and payments are collected and organized by Gallery 263, and work is selected at the discretion of the guest juror.
What happens if I am selected?
Our exhibitions director will contact you. You will be responsible for getting your work to and from the gallery on the drop-off and pick-up dates or shipping accordingly so that your work arrives on time for install. Shipping details will be arranged between the artist and Gallery 263. Never ship artwork without confirming your plans to ship. Artwork must arrive presentation ready (framed or with appropriate installation materials). You will be required to sign an exhibition contract which must arrive at the gallery before or at the moment that your artwork arrives. We also would hope that you can come to the reception!
Who is responsible for delivery, handling and installation of work if selected?
Artists are responsible for arranging for delivery and pickup if selected. Gallery 263 staff receives, handles, designs, and installs the exhibition.
Can my artwork be for sale?
Work for sale must be priced by the artist. Gallery 263 does not sell juried art directly, and all inquiries will be directed to the artist. Gallery 263 does not take a commission for sales; however, we suggest a 30% donation. Donations from artwork sales contribute to supporting the mission, programming and sustainability of Gallery 263, a small nonprofit organization.
What are the restrictions for A/V equipment?
For video or audio work, the artist is required to supply equipment. We have a few small flat monitors and headphones that may be available. The gallery gets abundant natural light and is not an ideal space for projecting video art; however, using a monitor is often a good solution.
What are the restrictions for sculpture and installation work?
The gallery has several small to medium sized pedestals. We also have a few shelves. If our selection of props does not suit your artwork’s display needs, you must supply your own. Work cannot be attached to the floor and may be attached to the ceiling only in some places, at the discretion of the gallery. Mountable 3D assemblage may be attached directly to the wall and may weigh up to a maximum of 40 lbs, with the appropriate installation hardware provided by the artist.
